Behind the Scenes: How I Used Ella to Write a Better LinkedIn Post– and Refine our Brand in the Process
When a LinkedIn post needed more impact, Ella helped me sharpen it and, in the process, refine our messaging and brand for next time.
The Problem: Writing a LinkedIn Post That Actually Resonates
Writing a LinkedIn post isn’t as easy as it looks. Sure, you can throw something together, hit “Post,” and call it a day. But when your goal is to authentically connect with marketers, inspire them to rethink their approach, and show them a game-changing tool like Ella, good enough isn’t enough.
When I sat down to write about Ella, I wasn’t just trying to talk about a product—I wanted to engage people. I wanted to speak directly to the challenges marketers face every day, stand out in their crowded feeds, and genuinely connect.
But that’s easier said than done. How do you create a post that’s clear, compelling, and consistent with your brand voice—without falling into tired marketing clichés?
That’s where Ella came in.
Step 1: Crafting the LinkedIn Post with Ella
The starting point was Ella’s brand bot, which houses all our brand’s frameworks—positioning, value propositions, messaging pillars, personas, tone guidelines, and more. By pulling from the brand bot, Ella generated a creative brief for the LinkedIn post that was accurate and directionally correct.
Here’s where Ella started:
Audience: Marketers and agency leaders struggling with the Execution Gap—the disconnect between strategy and execution.
Key Message: Ella helps bridge the Execution Gap with clarity, alignment, and actionable insights.
Tone: Professional but approachable.
The initial brief gave me a solid foundation, but the first draft of the LinkedIn post was missing the nuance and specificity needed to make it pop. So, I worked with Ella to refine it.
Here’s how we fine-tuned the post:
Prompt 1:
"Ella, rewrite the hook to better emphasize the frustration marketers feel with the Execution Gap. Make it conversational, engaging, and sharp for LinkedIn. Suggest 3 options."
Ella’s Suggestions:
“The Execution Gap is where great strategies go to die. Let’s fix it.”
“Struggling to get from strategy to results? The Execution Gap is the silent killer. Here’s what to do.”
“Your agency’s biggest obstacle? The Execution Gap. Let’s close it together.”
These were strong, but I wanted them to feel even more relatable. So, I pushed further.
Follow-Up Prompt:
"Make the hook more personal and empathetic. Use inclusive language like ‘we’ and ‘our.’"
Ella’s Refined Suggestions:
“We’ve all been there: stuck in the Execution Gap, where great strategies go to die.”
“The Execution Gap slows us all down. It’s real, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.”
“The Execution Gap is our #1 challenge—and together, we’re solving it.”
The third option hit the mark. It was conversational, relatable, and emphasized collaboration—perfect for LinkedIn.
From there, I made additional adjustments to fine-tune the tone and messaging:
Adding empathy: I made sure the post acknowledged the frustration marketers feel before introducing Ella as the solution.
Adjusted Copy: “We’ve all felt it—that frustrating gap between a great idea and getting it executed.”
Making benefits clear: I added tangible examples of how Ella solves the Execution Gap.
Adjusted Copy: “Ella simplifies the chaos of execution, helping teams align and creative ideas flow effortlessly.”
Step 2: Improving the Creative Brief
Once the LinkedIn post was finalized, I realized something: while the brand bot provided a great starting point, the creative brief itself needed work. If we wanted future event announcements—like webinars and LinkedIn Live posts—to stay consistent with our voice and messaging, we needed to refine the brief.
Using the lessons learned from the LinkedIn post, I turned back to Ella to make updates.
Prompt:
"Ella, let’s improve the creative brief for event announcements. It needs to reflect a conversational tone, emphasize audience pain points (like the Execution Gap), and tie benefits to emotional outcomes (like reducing chaos). Can you rewrite it?"
Ella’s Revised Brief:
Audience: Marketing leaders and agency owners who feel stuck in the Execution Gap.
Pain Points:
Strategies that stall during execution.
Disconnected workflows that slow progress.
Messaging Pillars:
Ella bridges the gap between strategy and execution.
Simplifies workflows, clarifies messaging, and aligns teams.
Empowers marketers to focus on creative thinking, not logistical headaches.
Call to Action: Invite readers to learn more about bridging the Execution Gap with Ella during the event.
This updated creative brief was sharper, more aligned with our tone, and easier for the team to apply across different formats.
Step 3: Evolving the Brand Guide
Finally, I realized that the adjustments I’d made to the LinkedIn post and creative brief highlighted gaps in our brand language guide. The brand bot was strong, but it needed updates to better reflect our tone and style across all channels—not just LinkedIn posts.
So, I asked Ella to help me refine it.
Prompt:
"Ella, based on the adjustments we made to the LinkedIn post and creative brief, how can we improve our brand language guide to make our messaging more consistent across channels?"
Ella’s Suggestions:
Add examples of conversational tone, like “We simplify chaos” instead of “We streamline workflows.”
Emphasize the importance of acknowledging audience frustrations before introducing solutions.
Include updated hooks and CTAs that feel inclusive and collaborative.
With Ella’s help, I updated the brand guide to better reflect our voice. These changes didn’t just improve one LinkedIn post—they made our entire messaging system stronger and more adaptable.
The Takeaway: A Smarter System, A Sharper Brand
This wasn’t just about writing a LinkedIn post. It was about refining how we communicate, teaching Ella to reflect our voice better, and evolving our brand to meet the needs of today’s marketers.
Here’s what we gained:
A LinkedIn post that authentically connects with our audience.
An improved creative brief that ensures consistency for future campaigns.
A smarter brand bot that makes future messaging easier and more impactful.
Ella isn’t just a tool for generating ideas—she’s a partner in refining them. And when you pair her insights with your expertise, the results are incredible.
